Is there anything I can do to help slow the progression of ALS?

ALS is an “internal” disease of the motor nervous system, and external factors have only a limited influence on it. Therefore, the patient cannot slow down the progression of the disease on their own. Nevertheless, patients have various options for positively influencing the course of ALS. These include the consistent and proper use of medication, active participation in physical and occupational therapy as well as speech therapy, and the use of assistive devices for mobility, transfers, and communication. Openness, acceptance, and the use of available options for nutritional and respiratory care can also positively influence the course of the disease.
