The DMC Patient Survey is a survey of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that gathers important insights into their satisfaction with the DMC medication used to treat speech and swallowing difficulties.
DMC Care for ALS
Dextromethorphan/quinidine (DMC) is a medication used to treat speech and swallowing difficulties in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, with the aim of improving symptoms or at least keeping them stable. As part of health services research, Ambulanzpartner is conducting a survey on patient satisfaction with DMC treatment.
The Patient Survey on DMC
To help answer outstanding research questions, patients being treated with DMC are invited to participate in a survey. The survey allows for an analysis of patient satisfaction with the DMC medication used to treat difficulties with speaking and swallowing. The survey consists of questions regarding the likelihood of recommending the treatment and satisfaction with the DMC treatment.
Criteria for Participation in the DMC Patient Survey
The following criteria must be met in order to participate in the survey:
- Diagnosis of ALS
- Prescription of DMC for the treatment of speech and swallowing difficulties
- Participation in the ALS pharmacy program with recording of medication via the digital management and research platform “Ambulanzpartner”
- Minimum age: 18 years
Patients who meet the criteria will be invited to participate in the survey.
Participation in the survey via the ALS app
The questionnaire can be completed via the ALS app. Invited patients should log in to their ALS app to do so. In the ALS app, the survey can be found under the “More” tab and then by selecting “Questionnaires.” The questionnaire is titled “Your Satisfaction with Dextromethorphan/Quinidine (DMC) for the Treatment of Difficulty Speaking (Dysarthria) and Swallowing (Dysphagia).”
Duration and scope of the survey
It takes about 10 minutes to answer all the questions.
Organization and Conduct of the DMC Patient Survey
The DMC patient survey is conducted by Ambulanzpartner. The survey is part of the Ambulanzpartner registry study and has been approved by the Ethics Committee of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
Use of the results of the patient survey
The results are anonymized and scientifically evaluated without drawing conclusions about individual persons.
The data are of great importance for gaining insights into the scope of application and satisfaction with DMC treatment. The plan is to present the results at scientific conferences. Summaries of the results analyses will be sent in the form of a “newsletter” to patients with ALS who are registered on the Ambulanzpartner platform and have consented to receiving newsletters.
Yours sincerely
