On June 23, 2026, the “ALS App Europe Initiative Meeting” will take place in Madrid as part of this year’s European ALS Conference (ENCALS ). This satellite meeting will bring together experts from clinical care, research, and digital medicine to discuss new opportunities for a Europe-wide networked ALS care system.
At the heart of the initiative is a digital ecosystem consisting of two interconnected applications: the ALS app for patients and the ALS Center app for healthcare professionals and research teams. Both applications are designed to help collect important information about individual disease progression in a structured manner and make it available for use in patient care and research.
Another focus is the ALS-OPM classification, which allows for a more precise description of the various motor manifestations of ALS. Among other topics, the presentation will explore how this classification relates to disease progression, the biomarker neurofilament light chain (NfL), and other clinical progression data. The use of the ALS-OPM classification in various languages is also part of the program.
A key component of the program is the presentation and hands-on demonstration of the ALS Center app. This will show how the app can be used in various European research projects while also being integrated into daily clinical practice. The app makes it possible to clearly consolidate clinical data, ALSFRS-R scores, biomarkers, and other follow-up information.
The “ALS App Europe Initiative Meeting” marks another step toward a Europe-wide, interconnected digital ecosystem for people with ALS. The goal is to efficiently consolidate relevant health and disease progression data, improve collaboration between patients, ALS outpatient clinics, and research teams, and thereby provide sustainable support for both individual care and ALS research.
