Are there periods when ALS progresses more slowly?

In rare cases, there are known phases in the course of the disease during which only minimal progression of motor symptoms is observed. This phenomenon particularly affects patients who generally have a slow-progressing form of ALS. These periods of slowed progression can last from several months to a year.
