Can I eat “anything” even though I have ALS?
With ALS, an optimal diet is essential. Various clinical studies have shown that a high-calorie and even high-fat diet has a beneficial effect on the course of the disease. It is not necessary to follow a “diet” or avoid certain foods. On the contrary: “fasting,” “detoxification,” and efforts to lose weight have an unfavorable impact on the prognosis.
Therefore, people with ALS can eat “anything.” This includes foods that are otherwise associated with weight gain (“sweets,” high-fat meals, high-calorie beverages, etc.). No foods or other environmental factors are known to increase the risk of developing ALS. Therefore, recommendations for specific “diets” and “regimens” are medically and scientifically flawed and not advisable. From this perspective as well, people with ALS can eat “anything.”
